Reverand Peter Munson
Our Interim Priest has Arrived

The Rev. Peter Munson and his wife Julie arrived at St. Luke's the beginning of July 2021

The Rev. Peter Munson has been a priest for almost 30 years, serving all of that time in the Diocese of Colorado, prior to coming to St. Luke’s.  Most recently he served as the interim rector of Christ Episcopal Church in Aspen. In 2019, he quit his job as the rector of St. Ambrose Episcopal Church in Boulder  to pursue a calling he heard in 2008 - to walk across the United States, speak and write along the way, and raise money for four different organizations that serve children. He completed that 3,377-mile project - 6 Million Steps for Kids - in mid-November 2019, having walked from Charleston, South Carolina to San Francisco, California.

Peter has a B.A. in Environmental Conservation from the University of Colorado, a J.D. from the University of Colorado School of Law, and an M.Div. from Virginia Theological Seminary. He also completed interim ministry training in 2019 with the Interim Ministry Network.

Peter is married to Julia, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has been a therapist and coach for over 30 years. They have two adult children. Zach is the social worker at Northeast College Prep, a K-8 pubic charter school in Minneapolis, and is married to Jordan, a special education teacher at the same school.  Hannah is a 5th-grade teacher in Orting, Washington. Peter and Julia have a home in Arvada, Colorado (in the Denver area).

Peter is an avid hiker, has backpacked the 500-mile Colorado Trail, and climbed 47 of the 14,000-foot peaks in Colorado. He is also a huge baseball fan. His passions as a priest include preaching, writing meditations on scripture, leading groups in Lectio Divina (a contemplative way of listening to the Spirit through Holy Scripture), and being present with parishioners during the various celebrations, transitions, and challenges of life.

For the past 10+ years, Julia and Peter have been teaching relationship practices that help create healthy church communities.
